Mystic Warriors

Vitus User Groups: (note the abilities mentioned herein are considered class-abilities. Vitus-users have access to other general powers as a sorcerer would be capable of learning new spells.)

  • Congulair CN or CG Origin: The Ice Kingdom of the North
  • Those nordic warriors that prove themselves worthy form a symbiotic relationship with a tiny squid-like creature that feeds off his Vitus. In return this creature changes the Congulairs biological structure to be more hardy and resistant to cold. It can also secrete a special gel from his poors that hardens to form natural armor or even weapons.
  • Brotherhood of the Crimson Cloak Any Good Origin: The Young Republic of Ilmiora
  • This elite brotherhood of bodyguards use Vitus to protect their clients. With it they can sense things such as the clients state of pysical health & mental health… or wether or not they are in any danger from a range up to 1 mile away at higher levels. They may also use their Vitus to heal or protect a client from harm in various ways.
  • Gogiyo Any Chaotic Origin: The Black Empire of Ith
  • The Gogiyo use the power of natural storms to combat their enemies. They command lightning, wind, thunder and may even fly through the air at higher levels. They are one of the only groups that live freely in the forests on Ith. In return they respond to the call of the emperor whenever a battle must be fought.
  • Harvester Any Origin: Dunreth Forest
  • These mystic warriors are infamous for their horrible visage. They use Vitus to strike fear into the hearts of their enemies with a glance. They dedicate their life to the preservation of nature and balance. They share much in common with Druids however they answer directly to the Lords of Earth. If any crime against nature known to a Harvester goes unpunished they may themselves be punished quite harshly.
  • Infernal Sons Any non-Evil Origin: The Young Kingdom of Piik
  • These brave souls have been using Vitus to hunt and slay demons ever since they appeared on Trel. In fact they must kill every single demon they encounter or die trying. (That does not mean they have to allow it any advantage however). They may even use Vitus to ask questions of demons on their native plane.
  • Iron Fist Academy Any Alignment. Origin: Hwamgaal
  • Many peoples consider pugilism to be a favored fighting sport. However only those that can harness Vitus are allowed into the Academy and they must fight with honor thereafter. The reasons for fighting can be anything but their opponent must agree to the match without any trickery. Otherwise the initiate may only defend himself if attacked. An initiate usually will not fight without a monetary prize which they tithe to the Academy.
  • Order of the Leech Any Alignment. Origin: Sorcerers Isle
  • This order uses Vitus to drain the energy out of magical items or constructs. Members of the Order are never allowed to speak of their ability nor are they allowed to own or use magical items themselves. The Order sells their services to the highest bidder and sends out an anonymous Leech to do their bidding. Leeches are also useful in sensing magical aura’s which make them valuable associates.
  • Order of the Lone Wolf Any non-Evil. Origin: Dunreth Forest
  • This is the most well known order of Vitus-users that are not primarily human. Lone Wolves are vagabonds that protect the defenseless. They swear a vow of poverty and live by a code that keeps their motives pure and true. They use Vitus to intimidate their enemies and fight multiple opponents at once.
  • Cult of Madness CN, CE Origin: Melnibon
  • This cult was founded by Arcalaus the only known Melnibonean to acquire the ability to harness Vitus. However this talent came with a terrible price because he had to first drink the blood of other Vitus users and of course he was insane. His followers considered madness a blessing and willingly put themselves through an initiation ritual that breaks their sanity and gives them an Unnatural Presence. If they ever regain their sanity they loose all the abilities they had (though not the vitus itself). Their vampiric habits aside members of this cult are required to seek out secrets and drive others insane. They may also use their Vitus to summon nightmare creatures from the plane of dreams. This makes them mortal enemies of The Order of St. Bathipus.
  • The School of Many Eyes LN, TN, CN Origin The Young Kingdom of Shazar
  • This is the only school of Vitus-users that requires its members to first be blinded. This grants them other special abilities however including an unnatural awareness that makes them nearly impossible to flank. At higher levels they can use Vitus to anticipate danger and even spy on things from afar as through a clairavoyance/clairaudience spell.
  • The Brotherhood of Saint Vincent LG, LN Origin: The Young Kingdom of Tark
  • This independent religious order dedicate themselves to the strictures of Saint Vincent, Patron of Knights and Warriors, and are considered extremists by other faiths and governments. They are known to be completely loyal to their order and have no fear of death as long as they are fighting for their cause. They will never flee combat where innocents are left behind. Many also consider these men to be masochists because of their painful daily purification rituals. They use their vitus to give them increased momentum and mass allowing them to smash through enemy lines (or walls) like a human juggernaut. Conversely they can also use it to remain absolutely immobile till death. They also use Vitus to grant themselves superior toughness through damage reduction or channel an aura of St. Vincent that bolsters moral and increases freedom of movement to their allies.
  • The Dreamers Any Chaotic Origin: The Black Theocracy of Phoom
  • These warrior-scholars truly believe that life is just a dream. With this belief comes special powers and abilities unique to them. Few that encounter them ever really believe they actually saw them so their movements and actions are still widely unknown. Some things they can do with Vitus and the power of memory and dreams is that they don’t have to acknowledge physical wounds to their body, they can manifest things out of thin air, and they no longer require sleep. Eventually their Int bonus will apply to all their other abilities as well.
  • The Revenent Guard Any non-evil Origin: The Iron Kingdom of Gildor
  • This group is known to user their Vitus to speak with the Dead or even possess themselves with spirits for added benefits. They work to undo wrongs done against the dead. However they despise the undead and seek to destroy them.
  • Shiva’s Chosen Any Evil or Neutral non-good allignment. Origin: The Golden Republic of Esh
  • This ancient cult follows the tenents of destruction and rebirth. They use their vitus to create a 3rd eye on their forehead as well as an additional pair of arms. Their combat style is feared as a Dance of Doom and they have even been known to be immune to all poison and disease. In return for service to the cult members believe the cult will reincarnate them after death and perhaps ressurect them in this life if they are worthy. The aims of the cult are known only to the cult but many believe they can glimpse the means to a possible future and that’s why they carry out seemingly random acts of assassination and violence.
  • Brotherhood of the Sparrow Hawk Neutral or Chaotic Good Origin: The Young Theocracy of Vilmir
  • This secret brotherhood works against corrupt clergyman of the church of law. They believe they are carrying out true justice and aren’t above assination if they find evidence of corruption. They reclaim stollen wealth and distribute it to the needy. These talented Vitus users are known to run on rooftops and glide through the air. Their human members are even known to see in the dark as well as any other race.
  • Stone Soldiers Any Lawful Origin: The Stone Magocracy of Mirak
  • These Vitus-users have willingly transferred their essence into a stone construct. Besides the obvious benefits at higher levels they become nearly indestructable. The secret to the stone soldiers is jealously guarded by the magocracy of Mirak. Originally intended as a means to create an army of immortal stone soldiers it became clear there weren’t enough vitus-users on the island to accomplish this. Thus they have settled to using Stone Soldiers as elite guards. In return for their transformation and service the stone soldiers are given freedom after their maker dies of natural causes. If their maker is otherwise killed before his time in the presence of the stone solider they are usually destroyed as an example to the others. Those few that defy their masters (or worse kill them themselves) have to flee the island of Mirak altogether to have any chance of escaping the Magocracy.
